malabar | MLAs throw chairs in Bihar Assembly

Patna: MLAs of Bihar legislative assembly threw reporters' chairs at each other leaving some among them injured.

In an unusual display of muscle power, ruling and opposition members of the assembly on Tuesday shouted slogans and trooped into the well of the house and exchanged blows.

It started with the opposition members demanding for an adjournment motion and pressing for the resignation of the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi. The opposition alleged the irregular withdrawal of Rs 11,412.54 crore from the state exchequer for various welfare schemes.

The Speaker's repeated pleas for peace and calm fell on deaf ears and he then adjourned the House for the day. However, the entire opposition stayed back in the well of the House.

Both the opposition and ruling NDA members later said it was "a black day in the parliamentary democracy.

The Patna High court while hearing a PIL, had favoured a CBI probe into the alleged financial irregularities. and directed the CBI director to present himself before it on July 26.
