Chennai: Cheryl Huffton was a school teacher in Chennai. Now she owns a company, Dream Weavers , the turn over of which is Rs 25 lakhs.
The main person behind the success story is her own daughter Denise.
It was only after lot of arguments and cajoling, Cheryl agreed to quit her job as a teacher to start her own enterprise. The initial capital of Dream Weavers was just Rs 500.
Subsequently, they got a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh from Indian Bank.
Dream Weaver makes eco-friendly textiles.
Prema her disabled maid servant was the first employee of the company.
Their first client was a beauty parlour in Alwarpet in Chennai and the sale for the first month was Rs 5000.
Gradually they added more machines and employees and sales went up.
Cheryl now feels that she has done a correct thing in quitting her job and starting a company of her own. She is able to give employment to some women and at the same time earn some profit out of it.
