Kochi: A tanker lorry transporting drinking water rammed a private bus in the morning hours at Pathadipalam near Edappally. One person was killed on the spot and 54 others were injured.
The accident occurred at about 9 a.m. The tanker lorry was coming from Aluva side. It went out of control, jumped over the median and then hit the side of the bus going in the opposite direction. The bus was operating between Ernakulam and Pokkattupadi.
Jayaprakash an engineer with the Kerala State Electricity Board, got stuck under the bus and died on the spot.
The injured were admitted to the nearby hospitals.
The police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Local residents complained that haphazard parking of trailer lorries along the highway was the main reason for the large number of accidents in the area.
