‘Karshaka Shakthi' awards given to best farmers

Kannur: The first ‘Karshaka Shakthi' awards for best farmers in the district were presented by K.C. Shashidhar Chief General Manager (Kerala Region) National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) here in connection with the Bank Day celebrations on Wednesday. The award winners were selected by a panel of experts from NABARD, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, the departments of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry Dairy Development and the District Cooperative Bank. Mr. Shashidhar announced at the function that NABARD was starting a programme for formation and financing of joint liability groups (JLG) through mutual guarantee scheme. The objective of the scheme is to make available collateral-free credit to small and marginal farmers, leased land farmers, oral lessees and share croppers, and artisans in the non-farm sector.

Fire alarm in the cockpit of Jet flight

Mumbai : When the Jet airways Chennai bound plane was about to take off, fire alarm in the cockpit went off. There was a sudden rush of passengers when they were being evacuated. 15 of them received injuries and bruises said a Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) spokesperson. An emergency was declared at the Mumbai Airport and Fire Tenders were rushed immediately to the spot. All passengers were deplaned safely and a detailed inspection of the engine was carried out.
