Sainthia (West Bengal): The toll in Monday’s train accident at Sainthia in West Bengal’s Birbhum district has crossed 60, railway officials reported. The 60 victims include 57 passengers and three railway employees, More than 150 passengers have been injured. The accident occurred when the Sealdah-bound Uttar Banga Express rammed into the stationary Bhagalpur-Ranchi Vananchal Express from the rear at Sainthia station. The three railway employees who died are the driver and assistant driver of the Uttar Banga Express and the guard of the Vananchal Express.

Bombay: Tulsi aged 22 is Professor at IIT, Mumbai. He completed schooling at the age of nine and did doctorate from the Indian Institute of Science at 21. "I am delighted because IIT Bombay is a very reputed institute, not only in India but the world over. I was offered to teach as an Assistant Professor and I am proud that at the age of 22 I am the youngest professor in India," said Tulsi. Tulsi opted the IIT job though he got offers from Waterloo University in Canada , and the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER) in Bhopal.

Thiruvananthapuram: “ Better late than never” thus goes the old adage.

May be there is an awakening in the minds of our top leaders of political parties of the state. They now feel that bandhs and hartals are not solutions to the various problems. They only give troubles to the general public and wastage of national resources.

M Vijayakumar,Law Minister the other day told in the assembly that the government was planning to hold talks with leaders of various political parties on a draft bill to regulate hartals and bundhs in the state. He told that state government could not take any unilateral decision in this matter.

A commission headed by Justice V R Krishna Iyer had recommended regulating hartals in the state.

Kozhikode: Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar awarded the Sardar Patel outstanding ICAR institute award to Dr V A Parthasarathi Director, IISR at a ceremony held in New Delhi at NASC complex.

Dr Partasarathi told the award was for the contributions in major areas like good agricultural practice,application of GIS in spice diversity, introduction of office automation software, excellent transfer of technology and conservation of largest germplasm and microbial collection in the world.

This is the second time IISR is being recognized as the best ICAR institution. The institute received award in 1999.

The award includes a citation and cash prize.

Prof K V Thomas, Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr M S Swaminathan M P were among those present on the occasion.

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is shortly going to conduct a feasibility study for the North-South High-speed Rail Corridor in Kerala..

The study is expected to be completed within six months. .Industries minister Elamaram Kareem met DMRC MD E.Sreedharan in Delhi and discussed the proposed project.

The feasibility study will cover factors like the route to be followed for the corridor, the towns to be touched, time required for completing the project, and the anticipated cost of construction said Sreedhran.

According to preliminary assessment, the high speed track will need a formation width of about 20m.

Chennai: Cheryl Huffton was a school teacher in Chennai. Now she owns a company, Dream Weavers , the turn over of which is Rs 25 lakhs.

The main person behind the success story is her own daughter Denise.

It was only after lot of arguments and cajoling, Cheryl agreed to quit her job as a teacher to start her own enterprise. The initial capital of Dream Weavers was just Rs 500.

Subsequently, they got a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh from Indian Bank.

Dream Weaver makes eco-friendly textiles.

Prema her disabled maid servant was the first employee of the company.

Their first client was a beauty parlour in Alwarpet in Chennai and the sale for the first month was Rs 5000.

Gradually they added more machines and employees and sales went up.

Cheryl now feels that she has done a correct thing in quitting her job and starting a company of her own. She is able to give employment to some women and at the same time earn some profit out of it.

New Delhi: Yes it is possible! You can have your gas cylinder delivered in your house at the time you desire. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry on Tuesday launched, what is called the ‘Preferred Time LPG Delivery Scheme. As per the scheme, the LPG cylinders would be delivered at the preferred time of the customers for a small premium. This will be a boon specially to the employed men and women. The scheme is optional. The customers who do not want to pay a premium can have the cylinders delivered under the existing norms. The customer would be charged Rs. 50 for delivery sought before 8 a.m. or between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on any day of the week in metro cities, and Rs. 25 for any time between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Customers in other cities and towns would be charged Rs. 40 and Rs. 20 respectively. On weekends (Saturday/Sunday), Rs. 25 would be charged extra for deliveries sought between 8 a.m. and 6 pm in metro towns, and Rs. 20 in other cities. The scheme would be extended to Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad later this month and the rest of the country would be covered by the end of this year.
